President’s Welcome

The wait for the 2018 season bouncedown is nearly here – I for one, cannot wait!

There are a number of fun and exciting changes coming this season. The most important change will be the renovation works being undertaken to revitalise the Clubrooms, changerooms and toilets. These changes will include making the Clubrooms and toilets more accessible, re-painting and re-flooring, along with removing and replacing the roof to the Clubrooms and alfresco/patio area.

It is important to note that there is asbestos in the ceiling space and as a result, the area will be fenced off with no access allowed for the duration of the roof replacement – no exceptions. Therefore we will be arranging to have temporary storage placed on site as well as a temporary canteen set-up. This will certainly be a transition period for the Club and we will appreciate all of the help and patience from our parents that we can get.

The other exciting change coming in 2018 is the “new” Auskick. Scarborough JFC is lucky to be just one of a handful of Clubs within the Claremont District to be participating in the new model – which will be rolled out nationally by the AFL in 2019.

The new model will allow kids of all abilities develop their hand eye coordination and skills whilst having fun and making new friends. It will be easier for parents to participate and the AFL has made a series of short online videos – to view prior to coming down to footy each Sunday morning – that will explain all the drills and the ground set-up.

On a disappointing note, we were unable to get the numbers together to allow us to field a year 12 side this year. I would like to thank Pete Riley and Carlo Passera for the work they have put in over their many years as Coaches. Thanks also needs to go to Fiona Irwin for her work done as the team’s Manager. As disappointing as that is, as a Club we will put our best foot forward and crack on with the season!

In the true spirit of the game, I wish all of our teams the very best for a fun and exciting 2018!

Go Sea Eagles!

Cheers

Julie
